Financial Aid Department/Student Accounts = Fraud and Liars

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. Terrible staff, incredibly overpriced, racist instructors and completely incompetent personnel.

They don't care about their students, all they want is money. They lied to me about my loans, I was told by multiple staff member about everything being covered under my loans before scheduling classes. Next thing you know, I have a 2k balance. I stayed on top of it following up with the issue calling every week, was told it was an internal issue and the balanced was going to be cleared. They never cleared my balance, I kept calling back and they denied everything I was told. I spoke to 6 people in the same day for an issue that was never resolved and they were very rude. I requested to speak to a supervisor multiple times and they deny me the request over and over. If you ever call, record names or record conversations; or better of don't even enroll!

I am going into my second term at Kaplan. While online schooling is very different from attending an actual campus, the experience is purely what you make of it. I have financial aid and I have not had any issues so far. College is for adults, and as an adult, your financial obligations are up to you, Kaplan just gives financial guidance. Also, I have called for various reasons and always been able to talk to someone. My advice is if you cannot handle being very responsible for your own schooling, maybe do not pick a school online. So far, Kaplan has been great to me, and I am grateful for that.

SCAM!! Just google "Guerrilla Registration". All these people want is money. They don't care about you, your education, or your future. I realized this about halfway through the term I spent there. When I told my "advisor" I wanted to withdraw at the end of the term, she did everything she could to avoid speaking with me. Also, you pay them by the number of credit hours you take. At an actual school a class, like Anatomy and Physiology, would be around 3 credit hours. At Kaplan, a similar class is 5 credit hours. They do this so you have to pay them more. The classes are extremely easy and are obviously NOT worth 5 credit hours. The 10 month program I was in was going to cost me over $14,000. The program wasn't even properly accredited, so I would have never been able to get certified in my field. This program, at a properly accredited community college, costs around $4,000 TOTAL. I paid $4,000 for just one term (2 classes) at Kaplan. I advise anyone and everyone considering going here to just walk away. It's not worth it. It may sound nice that you "earn your 'degree'" completely online, but it's not likely a Kaplan University "degree" will get you into the career you're pursuing. Community colleges may also offer your program completely online, so try to look into them. If you're already at Kaplan, look for another school and withdraw at the end of the term. Make sure all communication with them is in writing, have them confirm that you have withdrawn, and check to be sure your status says "drop" instead of "active" so they can't keep you enrolled and charge you for classes you never took. It's really unfortunate that places like Kaplan University are allowed to exist. I never write reviews, but this is important. I don't want anyone to have their entire life destroyed because of this greed.

Kaplan is and will be what you make it. I have attended online schools/classes for the last ten years earning a AS,BS, MS and working on a PhD. ALL online classes and schools are expensive and require more work than on campus. It requires skills such as accountability, excellent time management, and be willing to sacrifice time and money to reach your goal. This is college, not high school. This is not for the individual who prefers lectures and constant interacting with classmates and the instructor. They let you know what is required as well as the deadline. For those who have attended college in the past, it is your responsibility to make sure that you have enough money that will cover the cost of your education and that also means making sure that you are not maxed out prematurely. This can be avoided by not accepting money that you will not need or banking those disbursement checks. Call and speak to FAFSA periodically. I actually think Kaplan does more hand holding than I require. There are a number of tools that are in place to help with education/career planning such as researching the requirements needed for your degree which also includes certification (for your state), cost, amount of time needed to commit to each class, tutoring, and the writing resource center. There are notations on their web site that advise you about accreditation for specific majors as well as your background. If you are not extremely proactive, ready to work hard and able to advocate for yourself, then maybe online learning is not for you. Everyone has different learning styles.
